Literacy
At Bayswater West Primary School, we aim to develop the literacy capabilities of all students so they can progress and succeed through all stages of learning and throughout their lives. We believe that the first step is to create a culture of students and teachers who love to read and write. We celebrate students’ successes in Reading and Writing, giving them strategies to further develop and reach their personal goals.
In all classrooms at Bayswater West Primary school you will see daily Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop sessions. Each session includes explicit teaching of new skills, time for students to practise these skills and also time to work on personal goals. The teacher will work with the whole class (explicit teaching of the Victorian Curriculum), small groups (Guided Reading/Writing- targeted small groups who have a similar learning goal) and individual students (1:1 conferences where the teacher and child will develop a goal for the “next step.)
