Bayswater West Primary School (BWPS) was established in 1971. BWPS is located in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne in the City of Knox, approximately 30 kilometres from the CBD. The main school wing houses classrooms, the library, a languages room, Out of School Hours Care facilities, student welfare and administration offices. The school has a modular 5 portable, and it caters for the music and performing arts program, STEAM program and high ability extension program. The school BER building has a staffroom/community space, a gym and assembly space, and a visual arts room. The grounds consist of a football oval, hard courts, sound stage, playgrounds, vegetable garden, passive garden and play areas. The school is an active member of a community hub, working closely with the local community and sporting organisations.

Our school’s vision is ‘One Size Does Not Fit All’, which was developed by our students. Our shared values include Curiosity, Care, Respect, Integrity & Persistence. We support all learners with a whole school curriculum plan that ensures the full range of learning needs of individual students is catered for. Our schools Mental Health Practitioner also engages with students and families when required by holding student counselling sessions, as well as running student welfare, mentoring and engagement programs. We aim to meet the educational and social needs of our community through close liaison and interaction between the school and external social and community agencies. Our schools aims to cater to various thinking and learning styles by offering specialist programs such as Music, Physical Education, Visual Art, PMP, STEAM and Italian. The school uses the SOLO Taxonomy as a language for differentiation in the classroom.

In 2025, a total of 223 students were enrolled at BWPS, 110 female and 113 male. 17% had English as an additional language. The school had 10 generalist classes across P-6. The school had 17 equivalent full-time staff and 22 part time staff: 1.5 principal class, 1 leading teacher, 1 learning specialist, 20 teachers and 16 Education Support Staff.

Student involvement, engagement and leadership in all facets of school life is promoted.  Our school has a commitment to embedding eLearning into classroom practice with computer and digital technology available, and used in classroom and specialist programs.  Extra-curricular activities, events and family celebrations promote student engagement and learning.
