Wellbeing
Positive Education
Positive Education brings together the science of Positive Psychology with best practice teaching to encourage and support individuals, schools and communities to flourish. We refer to flourishing as a combination of ‘feeling good and doing good’. Positive Education focuses on specific skills that assist students to strengthen their relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Through teaching these valuable life skills, Bayswater West Primary School provides its students with an increased capacity to learn effectively, as well as offering them a strong foundation on which they can build a successful life. At BWPS, we incorporate all the pillars of the PERMAH model into our teaching and learning.

Student Representative Council
The Bayswater West Primary School Student Representative Council (SRC) is a group of students elected by their fellow peers to represent all students in the school, led by the school captains.
Our SRC works democratically to represent the student body in school decision-making to improve learning and wellbeing. Recent projects include designing the PERMAH survey for kids, successfully applying for a grant to build a Frog Bog, designing the games painted on the paved surfaces as well as working with architects to assist in the design of the new junior and senior playgrounds.
Breakfast Club
A healthy start to the school day!
Our School Breakfast Club provides a warm and welcoming space for students and their families to enjoy breakfast provided by Food Bank every Friday between 8:15 and 9:00 am.
Volunteers, students and staff help set up the Breakfast Club space and provide students with a variety of healthy, Victorian grown or manufactured breakfast foods. These include oats, muesli, Vita Brits, wholegrain Cheerios, milk, baked beans, canned fruit, fruit cups, fresh apples, Vegemite and honey.
School Counsellor
At Bayswater West Primary School we have an on-site school counsellor, who provides support and care to students and their families. This program provides support for students' educational, social and emotional wellbeing, providing guidance to students on values and ethics in regard to their relationships with peers. Additionally, our school counsellor also assists students in accessing appropriate services within the community to assist them and their family with personal matters.
Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships
Bayswater West Primary School explicitly teaches student wellbeing skills on a weekly basis. Students engage in a 60 minute wellbeing lesson every week, which includes the Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships program. The curriculum taught is based around building respect and resilience in students and is a Department of Education Victoria initiative. It covers six topics of Social & Emotional Learning across all levels of primary and secondary education, including emotional literacy, personal strengths, positive coping, problem solving, stress management and help seeking.
Student Engagement & Inclusion Policy

The Student Engagement & Inclusion Policy outlines the preventative strategies the school has in place to build include and promote engagement at the school.
